Chad VanGaalen - Peace On The Rise
Just found this great video by Canadian artist Chad VanGaalen. Not only did he write the song which is from his new album Diaper Island (released through Sub Pop) but also animated the video you see below.

Big Cartel vs Etsy
I've been running my shop through Big Cartel for a while now and although it's been fairly popular I am considering the switch over to Etsy. It would be really nice to hear some opinions on which you think is the better shopfront out of the two or even if there is a better choice.

The dead will walk...
Apologies for not posting anything recently. I have been working as camera assistant/second unit on a film.
I have also set up my photographic studio on set and have been photographing all of the cast and crew, if you would like to see what i've been up to check out my other blog:
welcometothedarkslide.blogspot.com
We have a week and a half left of principal photography, so once it's all over I will be back up and blogging.
See you on the other side!

Mary Blair
I thought it would be nice to talk about influences and peoples work I admire, So here is a video about Disney artist Mary Blair.
Blair worked as a concept artist for Walt Disney in the 1940's and 50's creating concept art and colour design for films such as Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland.
I am learning to paint again from scratch in the hope that I can better understand the subtleties of using colour and have found that there are very few books on the subject of painting in a particular style or working with colour.
Something that has always stuck with me are the images at the end of the original Captain Scarlet series and the way in which they are painted. I have always tried to get to that level of realism with my work but never been successful, so perhaps by starting all over again I can improve.
Anyway, sit back and enjoy the video.
I would like to know what artists have influenced you and why, so please feel free to comment below.

Badger Press Summer Open Studio
Saturday just gone was the open studio day at Badger Press. Everyone had a great day despite the disappointing turn out, jaffa cakes and moustache cakes were eaten, some screen printing was done and lots of tea was drunk. So for those of you who couldn't make it here are some photographs.
Hope to see you at the next one!

My work on sale
The new addition to the press - A Risograph printer with
black and blue inks. More colours coming soon.
If you have never heard of a Risograph it works similar to a photocopier,
but uses ink. Prints amazingly quickly and is perfect for edition runs.
Screen printing underway
The new bunting
Jaws 3d screen print exposed and ready to print.

therewassomethingwrong
If you only look at one website today make this it:
therewassomethingwrong.com
It is the home of Shawn. The man without a surname.
Although what he lacks in surname he more than makes up for with drawing skills.
Here is a fine example of his work and also check out his flickr page, but do that tomorrow,
you've already seen one website today.

Rolling through Flickr while waiting for my phone to update itself I found the amazing work of Mike Doyle. I won't try to explain his work, all I will say is he makes abandoned run down houses out of lego and they are rad.

Ghosts in the machine
Here are two new pieces i've been playing around with this week.
I've been teaching myself illustrator after years of using Coral Draw and I have to admit that it really is as good as people say. The 3d plug-in is amazing and i've already used it to make the flying saucer in my promo postcard.
As always comments are appreciated

Dark City Gallery
Well, the week is over and it's been pretty hectic. This week we ran a stall at a Scifi convention in Eastleigh, attended a film festival, did a camera test for a zombie film with Charmed Apocalypse and I got to record some singing if you can call it that on my friend Lord Lav's new album.
So all in all it's been a good week!
At the SF convention in Eastleigh I had the great pleasure of meeting Ross and Kellyann who run Dark City Gallery, they sell one off pieces of art and limited edition screen prints, including this screen print by Dan Mumford which I bought from them.
Four colour with glow in the dark highlights, 18x24" signed edition of 110.
Unlike the God Machine Predator screen print that I missed, I was lucky enough to see this for the first time at the show and grab a copy before they all went! The amount of work DCG had on show and the amount of knowledge they have about their prints was amazing. It was also great to see a lot of work by so many artists up close as you can never judge a piece of work on a computer monitor.
I'll upload some pics of my two new prints this week.
Thanks for watching!

The Walking Dead
I don't know if you've ever attempted to use After Effects. I have, and it's a very complicated program to make anything look half decent in.
So if you want to be inspired by some great After Effects work head on over to Art of the Title and watch Daniel Kanemoto's version of the intro to The Walking Dead. Daniel talks about his influences and the process he used to make the sequence and there's also a bit of The Eels thrown in for good measure.
Enjoy!

Royal
One of my favourite films is The Royal Tenenbaums.
I've been meaning to draw something to do with it for ages, so here's one of my graphics tablet doodles of Royal.
I might draw the entire family if I get a chance.
